"The new series of paintings presented me with the opportunity to engender them with a new sense of place.
This was prompted by a second trip to Scotland in 2004.

  I continued to construct   the new works by developing active edge structures, defining boundaries, and the introduction of a dominant architectural device (motif). However, this time I was challenged with a number of new concerns: the predominance of green, the rapidly changing light and atmospherics, and the underlying but   ever present sense of mystery that pervades the land.
Perhaps more importantly these factors were underpinned by an engaging strength of character and stoicism within the Scottish people.
I have included a number of lead up works which show a changing palette and a change away from the predominant horizon division which characterised many of the earlier works."
